Good morning everyone at Adarsh School, College, and my dear friends.

My name is Abhishek and today I am going to talk about the Pongal festival.

Pongal is an important festival of the Tamils of India. This festival is celebrated every year for four days which starts on 14 January. According to the Tamil calendar, it marks the beginning of the month of Thai.

The first day is Bhogi Pongal. This includes destroying the old archives, burning the old archives, and welcoming the new archives.

The second day is Surya Pongal and is celebrated to thank the Sun and the farmers for the grain. On this day, sweet Pongal is made using milk, jaggery, and raw rice, which is fed to the deity and later eaten by people as prasad with their family and friends. Especially during Pongal lock time when milk solution is made their people say “Ponglo Pongal”.

The third day is Mattu Pongal Day, which is celebrated as a thanksgiving for giving milk. Jallikattu is celebrated on this day at an important place in Tamil on this occasion.

The fourth day is Kanum Pongal Day. Kanum means traveling, which is celebrated at the home of your friends and relatives. Blessings of elders to all the children. They all participate in a lot of games on this occasion like pulling sassy, breaking matki etc.

Long Speech on Pongal

Good morning everyone at Adarsh School, College, and my dear friends.

My name is Suman Kumar. Today I am going to talk about the Pongal festival.

Every year Pongal is celebrated in Tamil with much pomp and grandeur. It is a celebration of the festival season, and it is the time when the people of Tamil Nadu contribute to their prosperity and collectively worship the Sun God, Mother Earth, grain, and paddy for a happy life.

It is an important festival of Hindu culture, mythology, and mythology. It is one of the major festivals of Tamil Nadu. Importance of good harvest vegetables like rice, turmeric, meat, restaurant, etc. Festival of peace, happiness, and prosperity.

Pongal is also celebrated as the festival of farmers, it is celebrated every year for four days till the middle of January. People clean their houses with great enthusiasm and prepare to welcome this grand festival.

Small dormouse gets together during this festival, which is called Bhogi Kuttu in Tamil. New flowers appear on the trees in this season which is seen as a symbol of a new beginning of life.

Just like Pongal is celebrated in South India, similarly other types of India celebrate Makar Sankranti, Maghi, Bihu, and Lohri. Pongal marks the beginning of something new for the farmers. According to a theory, whatever new beginnings we make during this period give us rich and fruitful qualities.

Let us take a look at how the traditional Pongal festival is celebrated for four days.

The first day is Bhogi Pongal, on this day people clean their houses and burn useless, old cigarettes.

The second day is Surya Pongal, on this day people decorate the spices with delicious rice pieces called kolams. It is made as an offering to the Sun God, the Pongal deity cooks in an earthen pot, and after consecration to the God, it is shared with everyone as Prasad.

The third day is Mattu/Maatu Pongal, on this day bullocks and clothes are given special importance and they are worshiped by applying turmeric sandalwood tilak, and garlanding them with flowers.

The fourth day is Kaanum/Kaanum Pongal, it is also the last day of the Pongal festival. On this day everyone meets together and eats together. People pray for everyone’s prosperity and beauty, may all the little ones be blessed by their elders on this day.
