Good morning everyone present here.

My name is Ramesh and today I am present in front of you to tell you about the specialty of Onam festival.

Onam is an important festival in Kerala. All the people of Kerala celebrate this festival with great pomp and show. Social unity and harmony are seen through this festival.

Irrespective of caste, creed, religion, and community people belong, everyone here celebrates Onam with equal enthusiasm and happiness. Malayalees organize cultural events in their homes and at various public places.

People buy sweets and wear new clothes to celebrate the Onam festival. People dedicate the celebration of the occasion to their revered king Mahabali.

This festival is also known as “Saadhya”. In some places, people organize short plays and presentations depicting the story of King Mahabali with Lord Vishnu.

Traditional Kerala dances, local songs, games, elephant parades, and boat races are important parts of the festival. Vallam Kali or boat race is a symbol of state-level competition among people in Kerala.

People come from different places to participate in this boat race competition, while popular political personalities also participate in it and encourage the contestants.

Long Speech on Onam

Good morning everyone present here.

My name is Komal Kishore and today I will talk about the Onam festival in front of you.

Onam is an important festival of Kerala, which is celebrated by people all over Kerala for ten days because each day of this festival has its own unique significance. Thus the people of Kerala celebrate each of them uniquely.

Onam festival reflects the history and rich culture of Kerala. Onam dance is very popular all over India, some of the traditional performances that people perform include Kummatti Kali, Kathakali, Pulikali/Kaduvkali, and Kaikoti Kali.

It is believed that the holy spirit of King Mahabali is present in Kerala during the Onam festival. This festival is one of the most spectacular festivals of all Kerala. People cook various traditional dishes and decorate their homes with flowers. Rangoli is made with flowers and rice flour. During this time people meet with each other and visit temples.

Apart from this, the traditional snake boat race is also a major attraction during the festival. Which we call Vallamkali. There are 100 men on each boat and all these people do the work of running the boat, which is on the Pampa river. Also popular are the Uttarathi Boat Race and the Nehru Trophy Boat Race.

Another important aspect of the Onam festival is Onam Sadhya, which is basically a feast. It is very grand. A variety of dishes are prepared including a variety of vegetarian dishes and are served on banana leaves on the last day of the festival.

Also, people decorate the front of their houses with flowers to welcome their king Mahabali, which is called Onam Pookkalam which is basically a carpet of flowers.

In conclusion, I would like to say that Onam is a festival that unites all the people here. And erases all the boundaries created by us. People celebrate it with great enthusiasm and joy and enjoy the occasion to the fullest every year.
