Future Indefinite Tense Rules, Formula, Examples (Download PDF) – It is also known as Simple Future Tense. Simple Future tense marks the occurrence of action in future time.

For a better understanding of different types of rules with examples have been given, we can make four types of sentences, 1st is an affirmative sentence, 2nd a negative sentence, 3rd an Interrogative sentence, and 4th is a WH sentence with a question. So let’s start, with how to make the Future indefinite tense.

Before starting, we understand the formula:

  • Affirmative – Sub + will/shall + 1st form of verb (v1) + Obj.
  • Negative – Sub + will/shall not + 1st form of verb (v1) + Obj.
  • Interrogative – will/shall + Sub + 1st form of verb (v1) + Obj.
  • WH Questions – WH + will/shall + Sub + 1st form of verb (v1) + Obj.

1. Affirmative Future Indefinite Tense

Read the rule carefully: for affirmative sentence

  • Future Indefinite Tense has the use of shall or will with 1st form of the main verb.
  • Generally with the first person, I, we, shall is used.
  • With second and third person, you, he, she, it, they, and others will is used.
  • In certain cases when there is some sense of promise, thread, command or determination, etc, the use of shall and will reversed. For example, with the first person, we use will and with the second and third persons, we use shall.

Formula: for affirmative sentence.

Sub + will/shall + 1st form of verb (v1) + Obj

2. Negative Sentence in Future Indefinite Tense

  • We can make negative sentences in the Future indefinite tense. In this case, we use not after shall/will.
  • Generally with the first person, I, we, shall not is used.
  • With second and third person, you, he, she, it, they, and others will not is used.

The formula for Negative sentences.

  • The helping verb Will/Shall is placed before the subject, and a question mark (?) is put at the end of the sentence.
  • In Interro-negative sentences first comes to Will/Shall, then the subject, after the subject not, and then the first form of the main verb.

4.  WH-Questions Future Indefinite Tense

  • WH- There are sentences whose answer requires more information. WH – are related, when, where, why, how, who, how many, how many.
  • To form a WH-question, start with the WH-word, then add Will or Shall, then the Subject followed by the base form of the verb, and only then add the rest of the sentence.

Formula for WH-Questions

WH + will/shall + Sub + 1st form of verb (v1) + Obj
