Godhra Massacre

Under the forced labor system in Godhra, the British officers used to exploit the public. The British officers used to use the public as a free porter for their glory. This is called forced labor. There was a movement to stop this practice.

In 1916, a committee was formed to end the forced practice. Vallabhbhai was elected his minister. The whole movement went on under his leadership. After a hard struggle, he got the victory in that movement and the government had to stop the practice of forced labor.

In National Movements

Now Sardar Patel started participating in the national movements run by the Congress. Gandhiji started Kheda Satyagraha. Seeing Sardar Patel’s loyalty and sacrifice in this Satyagraha, Gandhi fully praised his organizational strength and valor.

Always in the forefront with Gandhiji in the Satyagraha against the Rowlatt Act. Even when Gandhiji was taken prisoner during this period, he did not allow slackness in the movement. Due to his leadership power, he was made the President of the Gujarat Congress Committee in 1921.

In 1930, Sardar Patel was also imprisoned along with other leaders in the Salt Satyagraha. After that, in the 1931 Congress session in Karachi, he was unanimously made the chairman. In 1935, when the Congress participated in the provincial elections, under the leadership of Sardar Patel, the Congress got a resounding victory in seven provinces and the Congress government was formed in these provinces. During that period Sardar Patel was elected the President of the Parliamentary Board.

The merger of Princely States

Before India became independent, there were 600 princely states in India. Bringing them into the Union of India was a very difficult task. Sardar Patel was made the Home Minister of India. The charge of the princely states was also on him. Through his political acumen and efficient policy, he merged almost all the princely states into the Union of India.

The native kings who refused to behave harshly with them forced them to merge their princely states into India. It was such a difficult and impossible task that people like Sardar Patel solved it easily.
