Essay on Guru Nanak Dev Ji in English (Download PDF) – India has been a religious country. The Gurus of India have given a spiritual message to mankind for their welfare. Whenever a man starts moving towards darkness by wandering in ignorance, then a wise man comes to this earth to show them the way with the light of his knowledge. In such a situation, Guru Nanak Dev descended on this land.

The human organization, which was started by Guru Nanak Dev to show the path of peace and truth to the then human, was initially named Nanak Panth and later it became famous as Sikhism and Khalsa Panth. Guru Nanak was a religious architect of the Middle Ages, a revolutionary reformer, a great era builder, a staunch patriot, a benefactor of the oppressed, and a visionary national builder.

Birth Introduction

Guru Nanak was born on Kartik Purnima in 1469 in a village called Talwandi, fifteen kos from Lahore, which is now called ‘Nankana Sahib’. This place is now in Pakistan. Nanak’s father, Kalu Chandra Vedi, was the manager of the Rajput ruler of Talwandi. Nanak’s elder sister was called Nanaki because of her birth at maternal grandfather. According to his name, people started calling him Nanak.

Childhood

Nanak was a person of genius and extraordinary personality since childhood. Since childhood, Nanak used to sit like sages and sadhus and talk like them. He loved solitude. He used to go into solitude and get absorbed in meditation. At the age of eight, he was sent to study. He used to talk greatly, but he did not feel like reading and writing.

Suffering Life

When Nanak grew up, his father got him married because he wanted to engage him in some kind of domestic work. His father asked him to take care of farming but he did not feel like doing farming. They wanted to hire him for some job but refused him the job. Then they were engaged in business work.

One day his father sent him to Lahore for ₹40 and asked him to do the real deal. A group of sadhus was going on the way. He saw that the monks were hungry. He thought father had asked for a clear deal. What can be more important than feeding a hungry person? So he spent all the money on feeding the sages and returned home empty-handed.

Home-Abandonment and Separation

Despite many efforts by Nanak’s father, there was no difference in Nanak’s behavior. His tendency did not seem to be in the social work of the householder. He loved the company of sages. He did not return home for several days. One day he left the house completely and joined a Satsang.

He used to go from place to place and recite Satsang to the people, whoever came in contact with him became his disciple. His father sent a singer named Sardana to explain and bring him back, but Nanak also needed a singer for bhajan kirtan. As soon as Sardana came in contact with Nanak, he became his disciple and he himself never went back.

Nanak Dev’s Journeys

It was very difficult to travel long distances in those days. Nanak’s mind yearned to remove the sufferings of the oppressed. He used to go to the people and talk about human welfare. He knew that ignorance is the cause of human suffering.

That’s why they used to travel long distances to spread knowledge. He spread his knowledge by going to every nook and corner of India. On the fourth trip, he went out of the country to Balochistan, Mecca, Medina, and Baghdad. People of every religion, every class, every caste who came in contact with him during these journeys became his disciples.

Nanak’s Objectives

According to Nanak Ji, God is one, He is present in everyone’s conscience, so his vision can be seen in the soul also. It is pointless to seek him. Tirth, fasting, namaz, sandalwood, tilak, garland, etc. are all useless means. Through them, we cannot reach God.

Through spiritual practice, the only man can see God in his heart. Nanak was able to get her interviewed. Only by truth, non-violence, friendship, brotherhood, honesty can we move towards that path.

Unleash the campaign of your heart. Purify your heart. Remove deceit, lies, dishonesty, etc. from the heart. These are the teachings of Nanak on which Sikhism rests.

Last Time (Death)

In the last days of his life, he started living in Kartarpur. He had appointed his beloved disciple Lahna as his successor in the name of Guru Angad during his lifetime itself. In 1539, at the age of about 70, Nanak changed his cloak (he went to heaven). His message and ideals guide us even today.
