1. The hidden Treasure – Small story in English for learning

Once an old man was on death bed. His sons were very lazy persons. The old man thought that what will happen to them after his death. He called all of them. He said that I have buried a huge Treasure in the field.

After the death of the old man, his sons search the Treasure in the field but failed. An old man advises them to sow seeds. Then they sowed some seeds in the field. After some time they got a bumper crop of wheat. It was looking like gold. This was the hidden treasure of the old man.

 Moral – labor is a true treasure

2. The shepherd’s boy – Small story in English for learning

There was a shepherd’s boy. He was very mischievous. He used to take cattle for grazing. One day he shouted –wolf, wolf. All the villagers run to save him. When they search there is no wolf present.

The boy was laughing. The next day did the same thing again. Villagers came to his rescue. But he was laughing at their foolishness.

One day the wolf came into reality. The boy shouted for help. But alas! Nobody came to his rescue. The wolf killed the boy.

There was an old man. He had four sons. The old man was very worried. All his four sons were hostile to each other. They used to fight against each other.

One day the old man called all of them. He gave each of them a piece of wood. He said to break it. Everybody broke the log of wood.

Then the old man tied some pieces of sticks together. But his son could not break it. Now they understood the strength of Unity

4. The Monkeys and Cap Seller- Small story in English for learning

There was a cap seller. Once he was passing through a jungle. It was Mid-day. He sat under a tree. In the shadow of a tree, he fell asleep.

In the main time, some monkeys got down from the tree and took his cap. When the cap seller opened his eyes. He was shocked to see this. But he applied his mind. He removed his cap and throw it down.

When monkeys saw this, they all did the same. The cap seller collected all his caps and walked away.

Moral – don’t lose your intellect in adversity

5. The clever fox and a crow – Small story in English for learning

Once a crow got a loaf of bread. It was keeping it in its beak. The crow was sitting in a tree. Suddenly a fox comes there. She saw the loaf of bread in crow’s beak.

She said to crow. “Your voice is very sweet”. Please sing a song. The foolish crow becomes very happy. It opened its mouth to sing. The loaf of bread fell down. The fox picked it up and fled away.

Moral- beware of flatterers

6. The mouse and the lion – Small story in English for learning

Once a lion was sleeping under a tree. Suddenly a mouse came out from his hole and jumped over the lion’s body. The lion caught him. But after some thinking. He freed him. The mouse thanked the lion and said that one day he will help the lion.

The lion was caught in a net. He roared. The mouse came there and cut the net. the loin was thankful to Mouse.

7. The slave and the lion – Small story in English for learning

Once there was a Slave. His master was very unkind. So the slave fled into the jungle. There he saw a lion. The lion was in dip pain.  A thorn was trapped in his paws. The slave went near the lion and took out the thorn from the lion’s paws. The lion was out of pain.

One day the slave was caught by his master’s man. His master order the slave to face a hungry lion. The death of slaves was certain. But what a surprise! The Lion came roaring but did not kill the slave.

 He was the same lion. The slave and the lion were now good friends.

8. The fox and the Grapes – Small story in English for learning

A fox was passing through on an orchard. After going a little ahead. He saw a bunch of grapes hanging.  Fox’s mouth filled up with water. The Grapes were beyond its reach. So, he tried to get it.

Fox doesn’t want to miss this chance as a bunch of grapes were looking delicious. As he thought. He tried hard and jumped again & again to get them. But he failed. In the and. the fox said that the Grapes were sour.

Moral – don’t make any excuse if you don’t achieve.

9. The thirsty crow – Small story in English for learning

A crow was very thirsty and was moving in search of water. Suddenly he saw a pitcher. He tried to quench his thirst. But there was little water in the pitcher.

Crow could not reach the water. He thought something. He brought some pebbles and drop into the pitcher. The water came up. The crow quenched its thirst.

Moral – where there is a will there is a way

10. The hare and the tortoise – Small story in English for learning

There were a hare and a tortoise. Once they decided to run a race. The hare was very fast. He ran very fast the tortoise was coming far behind. The hare thought to take a nap before reaching the winning point.

The hare fell asleep. In the meantime, the tortoise cross over the sleeping hare. The tortoise reached the winning post before the hare. When the hare awoke he was very sad.

Moral – slow and steady wins the race
