Definition of Adjectives

The words that describe the characteristics of nouns and pronouns are called adjectives.

Adjective words denote the quality, defect, color, shape, result, number, etc. of any name. For example – good, beautiful, black, fair, bad, fat, thin, double, quadruple, so much, as much, etc. These words show the distinctness and specialty of a thing or person.

(1) Definition of Adjectives of Quality

An adjective that gives information about the quality of a thing or person, is called a Quality Adjective. For example, beautiful, thin, cold, hot, green, fat, tall, good, bad, red, young, old, small, etc.

• Ram is a good boy.
• This is a green pen.
• I have a red hat.
• Ramesh is fat.
• Radha is beautiful.
• Ramesh is young.

(2) Definition of Adjectives of Quantity 

A word adjective that denotes a quantity is called a Quantity adjective. Like – a lot, some, all, little, no, much, whole, etc.

As we have seen, a quantity adjective gives knowledge of quantity, hence a material noun is always used after it.
