Mahatma Gandhi was born on 2 October 1867, in a coastal city in western India (present-day Gujarat). His father’s name was Karamchand Gandhi and his mother’s name was Putlibai. Mahatma Gandhi’s father was a divan of a small princely state (Porbandar) in Kathiawar.
It had a profound impact on the life of Gandhiji due to the traditions of the mother who was absorbed in the faith and Jainism of that region. Such as fasting for the purification of the soul, etc. At the age of 13, Gandhiji was married to Kasturba.
Once Gandhiji himself was picked up from a train and thrown out because Gandhiji was traveling in the first class at that time while only the whites in that category considered it their right to travel. Gandhiji vowed ever since that he would fight for black people and Indians. He launched several movements to improve the lives of Indians living there. He understood the importance of truth and non-violence during the movement in South Africa.
