It mainly includes surface water pollution, groundwater pollution, oil spill, chemical water pollution, suspended matter, microbiological pollution, oxygen-depletion pollution, and thermal pollution. All these can cause pollutants to enter our waterways.

There are many ways to prevent this pollution, such as picking up litter and putting it in the bin, mulching or composting grass or yard waste, if fertilizer gets on paved areas, blowing or sweeping it back onto the grass, etc.
